Quaker Chemical Corporation (KWR - Free Report) reported third-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $2.39 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.16 by 10.6%. The bottom line increased 14.9% from $2.08 in the year-ago quarter.
Net sales rose 10.3% year over year to $544.5 million, surpassing the consensus estimate of $526.7 million by 3.4%. Results benefited from improved pricing, a favorable product mix and new business wins across all segments. Sales volumes increased 3% year over year despite challenging industrial market conditions.
KWR Benefits From Pricing Actions and Higher Volumes
The company's sales growth reflected a 7% improvement in selling price and product mix. Pricing actions helped offset elevated raw material costs, while changes in the mix of products and services and index-based customer contracts also contributed.
Underlying end-market activity remained flat to slightly lower compared with the prior-year quarter. However, new customer business supported volume growth across the company's operations. Sequentially, consolidated sales increased approximately 2%, driven by improved pricing and product mix across all regions, along with higher volumes in the Americas and Asia/Pacific.
Quaker Chemical's Regional Sales Show Broad Growth
The Americas segment generated revenues of $254 million, up 14% year over year. Sales volumes increased 6%, while selling price and product mix improved 8%, reflecting strength in both demand generation and pricing.
EMEA revenues increased 6% to $152.5 million, supported by a 10% improvement in pricing and product mix.
However, volumes declined 2% due to the reversal of second-quarter pre-buy activity. Unfavorable currency movements also affected sales by 2%.
Asia/Pacific sales grew 9% to $138.1 million. The segment recorded 5% volume growth, a 3% pricing and mix improvement and a 1% favorable foreign currency impact.
KWR Sees Mixed Regional Profitability Trends
Americas segment operating earnings increased to $65.7 million from $58.9 million a year ago. Higher sales supported profitability, although lower segment operating margins and increased selling, general and administrative expenses partly offset the improvement.
EMEA operating earnings climbed to $31.2 million from $26.5 million, driven by higher revenues and improved operating margins. Asia/Pacific operating earnings declined to $35 million from $35.6 million as margin pressure outweighed sales gains.
Total segment operating earnings reached $131.9 million compared with $121 million in the prior-year quarter.
KWR's Cash Flow Declines Amid Working Capital Needs
Net cash provided by operating activities totaled $47.6 million during the first nine months of 2026, down from $89.9 million in the corresponding prior-year period. Higher working capital outflows drove the decline, partially offset by improved operating performance and lower restructuring-related payments.
As of Sept. 30, 2026, cash and cash equivalents were $167 million. Gross debt totaled $894.6 million, resulting in net debt of approximately $727.6 million.
The company's net debt-to-trailing-12-month adjusted EBITDA ratio was approximately 2.3 times. Quaker also repurchased 21,781 shares for $3.3 million during the third quarter.
Quaker Chemical Expects Seasonal Moderation in Q4
Management expects fourth-quarter revenues and adjusted EBITDA to improve year over year but decline sequentially from third-quarter levels. The anticipated slowdown reflects normal seasonal demand patterns associated with the holiday season in North America and EMEA.
Industrial activity in Asia is expected to remain soft amid geopolitical and economic uncertainty affecting demand in China. Management also anticipates elevated global raw material costs through year-end because of the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The company remains focused on its business transformation initiatives and sustaining positive earnings momentum into 2027. Management highlighted continued new business wins and improved profitability as important elements of its operational execution.
